How to Calculate Area
Area measures the two-dimensional space inside a boundary. The formula depends on the shape:
Rectangle or Square
Area = Length × Width
A room that is 15 feet by 12 feet:
Area = 15 × 12 = 180 sq ft
Triangle
Area = (Base × Height) / 2
A triangle with a 10 m base and 6 m height:
Area = (10 × 6) / 2 = 30 m²
Circle
Area = π × r²
A circular garden with a 5 m radius:
Area = 3.14159 × 5² = 78.54 m²

Room Square Footage (Flooring)
Calculating flooring for a home:
Living room = 15 × 18 = 270 sq ft
Bedroom 1 = 12 × 14 = 168 sq ft
Bedroom 2 = 11 × 12 = 132 sq ft
Kitchen = 10 × 12 = 120 sq ft
Total = 270 + 168 + 132 + 120 = 690 sq ft
Flooring cost = 690 × $4.50/sq ft = $3,105

Lot = 0.25 acres
Lot in sq ft = 0.25 × 43,560 = 10,890 sq ft
