Hourly to Annual Salary
The standard formula for converting an hourly wage to annual salary:
Annual Salary = Hourly Rate × Hours per Week × Weeks per Year
For a $25/hour job working 40 hours/week for 52 weeks:
Annual = 25 × 40 × 52 = $52,000
Monthly = 52,000 / 12 = $4,333
Biweekly = 52,000 / 26 = $2,000
Accounting for Time Off
Most workers don’t work all 52 weeks. Adjusting for paid time off (PTO) and holidays:
Total weeks = 52
Vacation weeks = 2
Holiday weeks = 1
Sick days = 1 week equivalent
Working weeks = 52 - 2 - 1 - 1 = 48
Adjusted annual = $25 × 40 × 48 = $48,000
If your employer offers paid time off, your salary stays at the 52-week rate. If you’re a contractor, use the actual weeks worked.
Annual to Hourly Rate
To convert a salary back to an hourly rate:
Hourly Rate = Annual Salary / (Hours per Week × Weeks per Year)
For an $85,000 annual salary:
Hourly = 85,000 / (40 × 52)
Hourly = 85,000 / 2,080
Hourly = $40.87
Salary Comparison Table
| Hourly Rate | Weekly (40h) | Monthly | Annual |
|---|---|---|---|
| $15 | $600 | $2,600 | $31,200 |
| $20 | $800 | $3,467 | $41,600 |
| $25 | $1,000 | $4,333 | $52,000 |
| $30 | $1,200 | $5,200 | $62,400 |
| $40 | $1,600 | $6,933 | $83,200 |
| $50 | $2,000 | $8,667 | $104,000 |
Factoring in Taxes
Your take-home pay depends on your tax bracket. A rough estimate for US workers:
Gross annual = $52,000
Federal tax (~12%) = $52,000 × 0.12 = $6,240
State tax (~5%) = $52,000 × 0.05 = $2,600
FICA (~7.65%) = $52,000 × 0.0765 = $3,978
Total tax = $12,818
Net annual = $52,000 - $12,818 = $39,182
Net monthly = $39,182 / 12 = $3,265

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I convert my hourly rate to annual salary?
Multiply your hourly rate by the number of hours you work per week, then multiply by 52 (weeks per year). For example, $25/hour x 40 hours/week x 52 weeks = $52,000 per year. For part-time work, adjust the hours per week accordingly.
How many work hours are in a year?
A standard full-time work year is 2,080 hours (40 hours/week x 52 weeks). After subtracting typical holidays and vacation (15-20 days), the actual working hours are approximately 1,880-1,920. This matters when comparing salary offers or calculating contractor rates.
Is a $30/hour job good?
At $30/hour working full-time, your annual gross salary would be $62,400. Whether this is good depends on your location and cost of living. In lower-cost areas this provides comfortable living, while in high-cost cities like San Francisco or New York it may be tight. Use our budget calculator to plan your expenses.
