Travel math happens at a counter, a table or a pump, usually in a currency or unit you do not think in. This calculator for travelers keeps the trip’s numbers in one note, labeled, so the question “can we afford the boat tour?” is one line away from the answer.
The examples show what Notes Calculator answers. Choose Open in Notes Calculator under any of them to open it in the web app or on your phone.
What is left of the budget per day
Write the budget and what you have spent so far, then divide what is left by the days remaining.
| Note | Result |
|---|---|
| budget = 1,200 EUR | €1,200 |
| spent = 640 EUR | €640 |
| days left = 5 | 5 |
| Per day: (budget - spent) / days left | €112 |
A tip and a split
Work out the tip as a percentage of the bill and split the total between the people at the table.
| Note | Result |
|---|---|
| bill = 86.40 USD | $86.40 |
| tip = bill * 18% | $15.55 |
| Per person: (bill + tip) / 4 | $25.49 |
Fuel for a road trip
Rental cars abroad quote consumption in liters per 100 km. Divide the distance by 100 km, multiply by the consumption, and price the fuel in the local currency and in dollars.
| Note | Result |
|---|---|
| distance = 640 km | 640 km |
| fuel = distance / 100 km * 6.5 | 41.60 |
| fuel price = 1.89 EUR | €1.89 |
| fuel cost = fuel * fuel price | €78.62 |
| fuel cost to USD | $88.34 |
Units abroad
Road signs, weather forecasts and airline baggage limits rarely use the units you grew up with.
| Note | Result |
|---|---|
| 100 km to miles | 62.14 mi |
| 30 °C to °F | 86 °F |
| 23 kg to lb | 50.71 lb |
| 2 US gallons to liters | 7.57 L |
